Attorney Susan Gaetano Maruca is a Senior Partner and the Chief Operating Officer of Betras, Maruca, Kopp & Harshman, LLC.  Attorney Maruca was born and raised in Campbell, Ohio and graduated from Villa Maria High School.  She received her B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh, a student of the University's Honors College.  She received her J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law in 1994, graduating as the President of the Student Body.  While attending school in Pittsburgh she worked in the Legal Department of Neighborhood Legal Services, providing free services to low income clients.  She also earned a Judicial Clerkship with Judge Lawrence Kaplan of Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. 

Attorney Maruca was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1994 and the Ohio Bar in 1995.  She operated a private practice from 1995-1999, with a focus on legal issues affecting families and children, including divorce, custody, support, adoptions, juvenile law.  She also practiced at the Appeals level arguing cases before the Courts of Appeals in both the 7th and 11th District of the State of Ohio.  In 1999, she merged with the law firm of Betras & Dann becoming a partner to form Betras, Maruca, and Kopp, LLC., which is now Betras, Maruca, Kopp & Harshman, LLC.  Her legal practice has expanded to include representing families and children in Personal Injury.  She also began her representation of foster care families in Probate, Juvenile Court and in the Court of Appeals.  Attorney Maruca also commenced representation of adults and children with disabilities.  Visiting families in their homes she has offered legal counseling to families considering guardianships, special needs, trusts, and other individualized services.  She has advocated for special needs children before School Boards regarding individualized curriculum.  

At her firm, Attorney Maruca manages 4 law offices in Canfield, Niles, East Liverpool, and Sharon Pennsylvania.  Attorney Maruca has created a student intern program exposing local young people to the practice of law.  She has created partnerships with Youngstown State University, Kent State University, Akron Law School, and Howard University to encourage students to pursue a legal profession in the Youngstown area.  She serves as a coach for the Moot Court team at Hubbard High School and offers internship programs for local high school students as well. 

Attorney Maruca has been appointed to both the Disciplinary Committee and the Campaign Ethics Committee of the Mahoning County Bar Association.  Attorney Maruca serves on the Board of Trustees for the Rich Center for the Study and Treatment of Autism at Youngstown State University.  She is on the Advancement Committee for the Gleaners Food Bank in the City of Youngstown.  Attorney Maruca is the Advancement Chair for Pak 2 of the Greater Western Reserve Council Cub Scouts.  She is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the Ohio Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, the Mahoning County Bar Association, the Trumbull County Bar Association and the Columbiana County Bar Association. 

She lives in Poland, Ohio with her children James and Christina.
